Mariana Stocco

I collaborated with Mariana to make her first ever photoshoot a great experience as she concludes a 3 month study stint in New York City. We found ourselves in TriBeCa on a mild and cloudy afternoon which were all the ingredients needed for a sweet session. As we walked and talked we quickly connected over our passion for traveling and immersing ourselves in different cities.

Mariana hails from Sao Paolo, Brazil which she quietly reminded me was actually a bigger city than New York. This big city gal had other great plans for cosmopolitan conquest as she’s getting ready to start her journalism Master’s program in Madrid this summer. She really loved getting to know a part of the city that she didn’t spend much time in, and I think TriBeCa reflected her taste which I would describe as classy, urban, and trendy. We found some great spots to reflect this vibe and got some great photos out of it. My personal favorite is the one of her standing in front of the steam vents.

Mariana and I met up for part 2 of our photography experience bright and early on an unseasonably cold April morning at Dumbo. With our meeting time set when most people are still asleep, we were guaranteed a crowd free setting perfect for catching those first glimpses of faint sunshine. The golden warm color of the day’s virgin light did wonders for Mariana and our beautiful city. If only it felt as warm as the photos looked, however. The temperature hovered around a very chilly 33 degrees for the duration of our session. We made it work though!

With the help of a quick pit stop to a coffee shop to warm up and wake up. Mariana was just as patient, responsive, and pleasant to work with as she was during our last meeting. It was her first time visiting Dumbo too, so the added novelty of a new experience made it all the better for us.

We made the rounds of Dumbo before walking over to the Brooklyn Bridge to catch the last of our incredible sunrise. They really do call this time of day (and sunset) “golden hour” for a reason! It was well worth it to wake up a little early for some crowd free fun and great light.
